One of the most actively evolving musical instruments is the guitar. As a vital piece of instrument in creating music, the guitar has adapted to change of times and to the specific needs of the changing world of music. One of the most innovative variation and change of the guitar is the Ovation guitar, which revolutionized the acoustic guitar much to the dismay of purists who wanted to stick with the conventional looks and manufacture of the guitar.

It was in the 1960s when aeronautical engineer Charlie Kaman shifted his career from his aviation company where his aerospace technology expertise could be applied to music. With several others of his colleagues, they set off the work in 1964 to start the business of making guitars and as they say, the rest is history. They dramatically deviated the conventional way of making flat-backed guitars and developed the now famous round back design of guitars. Ovation guitars, took the first stage of fame with Balladeer, the very first round-backed design guitar. Ovation guitarstook to a higher and more innovative level the construction and aesthetics of acoustics guitar. The company was the first to use synthetic materials such as fiberglass in the manufacture of guitars. Its bowl-back design was a result of their study and research that the traditional flat-back design had an effect on the sound projection. The result is of course its unique quality of tone, comfort, and playability.

Setting a benchmark in the manufacture of guitars, Ovation guitars indeed created the legacy of the bowl-back design with those unique sound holes, the use of synthetic materials, and piezoelectric pick ups that provide a unique sound and eliminate feedbacks even at high volumes.
