Kay Vintage Guitars: A Must-Have
If you are a guitar enthusiast and collector, a must-have item should be a Kay vintage guitar. Some of the most popular names in the music industry used a model of Kay guitars. We will name some of the artists later. In addition, some of the models will be listed for your reference and information.
First, Kay vintage guitars started in the early 50’s and by that time, Kay Musical Instrument Company was one of the leading manufacturers of guitars. An the time Sydney Katz took over the company, they focused on manufacturing electric guitars. Aside from electric guitars, the company also produced arch-top, flattop as well as banjos.
Before, Kay guitars were just known as entry-level guitars. They also manufactured guitars for other companies using different names such as Old Kraftsman, Airline and Silvertone. The company also was able to produce professional guitars known as the Gold K line. These guitars were the ones used by famous musicians. Kay vintage guitars went into the hands of a new company, Valco, in 1967 but the quality of the guitars Kay had produced remained.
Some well-known musicians who had used Kay vintage guitars are Barney Kessel, who used a Jazz Special model of Kay and Beck who played a pre-Kelvinator Pro. The great Bob Dylan played a Thin Twin guitar while The Cardigans had used Barney Kessel guitars. Eric Clapton, another hailed performer, performed with a Kay Jazz II. Paul Mc Cartney of the acclaimed and revered Beatles used a Jazz Special bass in some of his performances. The band Polyphonic Spree also used the Thin Twin as well as Jimmy Reed. Sarah Maclachlan used both Pro and Jazz II. The Stone Temple Pilots played a Kay Upbeat and a Jazz Special Bass. Stevie Ray Vaughan performed with a Barney Kessel Model.
Knowing that a great line-up of artists had used Kay vintage guitars, it adds up to many reasons why collectors needed to grab a Kay guitar to include in their collections. It would be a plus factor having a Kay vintage guitar beside other collectible vintage guitars such as Guild, Fender and Gibson. A Kay guitar would surely complete a good collection of vintage guitars.
For collectors, it would be best to know what models to include in their shelves. Below are some models and brief descriptions for your reference.
The Thin Twin, was manufactured and released in 1952 and lasted until 1959, this Kay vintage guitar will surely add great pride to your collection. In its time, the Thin Twin was sold in various brand names and sometimes with no brand name at all. That is why it became popular.
The Artist, was released from 1957 until 1960. It displayed the signature of barney Kessel in its pickguard until the year it was removed from the market.
The Upbeat, was released from 1957 until 1960. This was also a Barney Kessel brand. A sure hit with vintage guitar collectors.
Those were just some of the models that you could consider if you were planning to add Kay vintage guitars to your collections. For more information about the brand, you could always visit the official website of Kay Vintage Guitars.
